الشبكات العامة للواي فاي منتشرة في قطر إلى حدّ يصعب معه أن تمرّ بمكان دون أن تجد إحداها: في المقهى، وبين ممرّات المول، وفي صالات المطار، وفي عدد كبير من المرافق العامة. إنها عملية وسريعة، غير أنّ التعامل معها بوعي هو ما يرفع مستوى أمانك.Public Wi-Fi is so widespread in Qatar that you can rarely pass through a place without finding one: at the café, along the mall’s walkways, in the airport terminals and across a great many public facilities. They are handy and fast, yet handling them thoughtfully is what raises your level of safety.

على أيّ شبكة عامة، القاعدة اليسيرة هي إيثار المواقع المحمية التي يستهلّ عنوانها بـ HTTPS ويرافقه رمز القفل، إذ تشفّر كلّ ما ينتقل بينك وبين الموقع. وأمّا المهامّ الحسّاسة كالمعاملات المهمّة فالأفضل عادةً إرجاؤها حتى تصل إلى شبكة تطمئنّ إليها أو إلى باقة بيانات هاتفك.On any public network, the easy rule is to favour protected sites whose address opens with HTTPS and carries the padlock, since they encrypt everything travelling between you and the site. As for sensitive tasks like important transactions, it is usually best to hold them off until you reach a network you trust or your phone’s own data plan.
